Parcel Packing 101

We are committed to delivering your parcels on time and with care. During the transit process however, sometimes parcels are handled several times so it is therefore important that the parcels are adequately packed. Posting a parcel with us but don’t know where to start when it comes to packaging your goods? Don’t fret. We’ve compiled a list of tips to help you with your parcel packing.

  1. Make sure you’re using a good box.
  2. The size of the box should be chosen carefully with the contents in mind. Trying to squeeze something big into a small box will increase the likelihood of the box splitting, which is not ideal when you’re trying to post something.
  3. If you’re shipping multiple items in the same box, make sure you wrap individual items separately with bubble wrap or paper. This is good to prevent the items from damaging each other. For example, if you’re shipping mugs or dishes they won’t scratch each other inside the box.
  4. Ensure that the box is packed out properly to stop any contents from moving around inside the box. You should also make sure the contents are in the centre of the box not touching the sides, cushioning them on all 4 sides.
  5. Repack your goods properly as many goods are sold in the original packaging from manufacturing which is not always 100% suitable for carriage.
  6. Brown tape is the best tape for sealing boxes. Make sure you seal every edge to ensure security. Double layering is a must for maximum strength and security.
  7. Reduce, reuse and recycle is what makes the world go round! However, if you are using an old box for your parcel, please make sure any old labels are removed to prevent any personal data being leaked or to prevent any shipping mixups.
  8. If you’re shipping a non-solid item or anything fragile, make sure you have an ‘arrow up’ label to ensure that the package gets handled correctly.
  9. Ensure that the address label is completed clearly and nothing is missing. If you are handwriting your label, please use capital letters as it is easier to read.
  10. For extra security, please put a duplicate address label inside of your parcel just in case anything happens to the outer packaging or if the external label becomes detached.

We hope these tips helped! Please note that Brighton Couriers will accept no liability for the packaging advice that we provide.
